Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in White On and Deborah Lippman Happy Birthday glitter.

Kind of feeling like eating a spoonful of icing right now.

I can’t say enough good things about the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure line. It’s especially easy for beginners because the brush makes it so easy to apply. The polish is a really creamy and opaque formula and glides on super nicely. I can’t believe I only just discovered it. I would rate it higher than some Essie polishes.

Here, I used Calypso Blue from the same line and Konad special polish for the clouds.

The Daily Polish: Prabal Gurung

I found this post yesterday over on All Laquered Up and I immediately knew I had to try my own DIY version.

Editorial manicurist, Jin Soon Choi, used the new Prabal Gurung for Sally Hansen spring 2012 collection to create what she calls a “slim silhouette” for the spring/summer 2012 Prabal Gurung show in New York recently.

The model is wearing Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Lacey Lilac as the lighter shade and Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Loves-Me-Not from the new Prabal Gurung for Sally Hansen collection.

This is my version.

I used Essie’s Lilacism for the light colour and Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Plum Luck. I also don’t think I made the side parts as skinny as in the photo, above mine.

Actually, that’s a lie. I tried to on one hand, but the other hand looked better. So I redid one hand. I’m a perfectionist. It’s not my fault.

The key to this manicure is the brush size for your top colour. I’ve never used Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure polish, but the brush is seriously awesome for this kind of manicure. I used one wide stroke for each finger and it worked out great. Both in size and coverage.

OPI might be a good substitute, as it also has a wide brush but Essie probably wouldn’t work. Another good option might be the special Nicole by OPI polishes that advertise the new brush. It’s very similar to the Sally Hansen brush I used here.

I got a haul from nailpolishcanada.com yesterday. And in it, was a nifty dotting tool. Which I obviously couldn’t live without.

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in White On and China Glaze dots in First Mate.

I learnt a valuable lesson last week. Be careful when your fingernail is ripping off. It could result in a major injury and infection. And 10 days of antibiotics.

But because this is a place of fancy and not a place of gross and disgusting, let’s not talk about it.

All it means for you, lovely Internet readers, is that you’re going to get photos of my right hand for a while. Which is usually not painted as nice as my left. But so be it.

I love this manicure. I had it in mind for many, many moons and finally got around to doing it. It looks like wallpaper. That I would probably buy.

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in White On and Konad special polish in black. Obvi.

I already told you about the Chic Prints from Sephora by OPI. They are a kind of decal that covers the whole surface of your nail. Instead of polish.

I recently tried a similar product. Sally Hansen Nail Effects. These are available at the drugstore and cost less than the Chic Prints.

Know what else? They are way better.

While the Chic Prints were thick and paper-y and made me feel like I had taped post-it notes to my nails, the Nail Effects are stretchy and thin and were more like a nylon for your nail. Pantyhose, if you will.

In other news, pantyhose is my most hated word in the English language.

It took me a few nails to get the hang of it, hence the reason I had to polish the pinky finger with Essie’s Midnight Cami, but the excess tips file off easily and they are not cumbersome on your nails. They come off with nail polish remover, which was a bit of a mess.

I much prefer lacquer to these sticker things, but if you’re into it, definitely use the Nail Effects over the Chic Prints.
