Once in a while, I come up with a nail polish combination that I kind of want to just stare at all day. This is one of those combinations. I love it. L-O-V-E.

I may or may not have done my nails four times this weekend. I was trying out some new polishes I was sent recently, and I wasn’t loving any of it. Then I did a manicure for a friend, and was kind of jealous of it, which lead to this creation. Essie Carry On from the fall collection and Sephora by OPI Traffic Stopper Copper glitter.

It feels like toasted marshmallows on my nails. Or something.

When people ask me what colour polish to wear to a wedding, or with a certain coloured dress, I always say red.

That’s right. People ask me those questions.

It’s classic, feminine and goes with everything. The Thrill of Brazil from OPI is a personal favourite of mine. And Eve’s. And Anne-Marie’s. So it has a bit of a following.

One of the perks of my manfriend living in the suburbs is that he happens to live across the street from a Trade Secrets. I’m moving in with him after Christmas, so I have no doubt I’ll be making good friends with the girls who work there. It’s kind of a mecca for the nail polish collector. They have all the OPIs and often have half-off deals on other brands.

I’ve dragged my manfriend in on occasion and he was pretty helpful in the choosing of nail polish. I’ve even caught him showing other dudes photos of my manicures, which I send to him often.

Um. Also, he’s super manly.

I got a super fun parcel on Friday from Trade Secrets and in it was OPI’s Siberian Nights. Which may, or may not, be my new favourite colour. And makes me feel like I’m cheating on Lincoln Park After Dark.

When people ask me what my favourite nail polish is, I always answer OPI. It always goes on smooth and the wide brushes make it easy to cover your nails in 2-3 strokes.

Oh, and the hot pink dots are illamasqua in Collide.

The Daily Polish: glitter crazy

21 Oct

There were a lot of manicures recently, and they were mostly glitter manicures. It’s kind of like when you discover a new favourite outfit and you just keep wearing it over and over again. No? Just me?

OPI Black Onyx with China Glaze Nova glitter. Pretty classy, I think.

The Daily Polish: vacation edition

I’ve been on vacation. And I’ve been indecisive. Nothing new there.

But those two things combined mean that I’ve pretty much had different nails every day this week. So in today’s Daily Polish, you get a quadruple whammy.

So, without further ado, this is Soulstice Spa in Rio, with Konad tips and dots.

Soulstice Spa is a vegan line of nail polish and is free of yucky chemicals. If that kind of stuff freaks you out, this is a really good option. I posted some other colours here and here. Check out nailpolishcanada.com for even more colours.

Oh. Em. Gee. If you’re going to buy any polish this fall, in addition to Chanel Peridot, it should definitely be China Glaze Midtown Magic. I’m not even sure how you can capture the wonderment that is this polish. It’s a black base with red and gold sparkles. Just go buy it. And join the happy parade.

With summer coming to an end, I knew there was a limited time for brights to be socially acceptable. This is one of those manicures where I got an idea in my head, and had to try it out. This is Inglot #309 and a Konad version of the half-moon mani.

This was another idea I had in my head and had to try out. It’s Sephora by OPI in Completely Fern-ishedis, which is only available in the mini bottles. Or, so I’m told. It’s a dark, mossy green. Even though it looks kind of black in this photo.

I poured a little loose green/gold glitter out onto a plastic surface. Then I put a dab of top coat next to it. I dipped a paint brush into the top coat, then into the glitter and dabbed it onto the tips of my nails. It’s a very messy process, but it produces super fun results. I finished with a thick coat of top coat to seal in the glitter.

And then I found the glitter in various locations around the BF’s house. He wasn’t very pleased with that.

Yesterday, I had two clients and one of them wanted coral polish with gold glitter on the tips. It turned out so well, I told her I was going to copy her. Then she kindly reminded me that I can’t copy something I did myself. Thanks, Amanda. The fumes make me confused sometimes.

So, today I did a badass version with OPI by Sephora Caught With My Khakis Down and Only Gold For Me from the same company.
