The Daily Polish

21 Nov

Once in a while, I come up with a nail polish combination that I kind of want to just stare at all day. This is one of those combinations. I love it. L-O-V-E.

I may or may not have done my nails four times this weekend. I was trying out some new polishes I was sent recently, and I wasn’t loving any of it. Then I did a manicure for a friend, and was kind of jealous of it, which lead to this creation. Essie Carry On from the fall collection and Sephora by OPI Traffic Stopper Copper glitter.

It feels like toasted marshmallows on my nails. Or something.

I’m not usually into nail polish trends, because they are just that. Trends. They’re cool today and passé tomorrow and I tire of them very quickly. Much like many of the dudes I dated in the past.

But on a recent trip to Sephora I couldn’t NOT pick up a bottle of nails inc. magnetic polish in Trafalgar Square. I felt I owed it to my readers to try it out.

See what I did there?

The formula goes on like any other high quality polish, comes in three colours, and the magnetic part is incredibly easy to do. Check out this video to see how it’s done.

The only downside is that you can only do one design. The magnet that comes with the nails inc. polish produces these wiggly designs, but I wonder if you could use a magnet from another magnetic polish brand to make a different design. Like this star magnet from LCN. I think I’d be more likely to use it often if I could switch up the designs.

What do you think?

Winner, winner pants on fire.

Not really. Nobody’s pants are on fire.

But there is a winner of the Konad Starter Kit from nailpolishcanada.com and it’s Christina! Congratulations, Christina. I’ll be in touch this afternoon.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the giveaway. I’ll have another one soon with more cool stuff to give away, so please enter again!

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in White On and Deborah Lippman Happy Birthday glitter.

Kind of feeling like eating a spoonful of icing right now.

When people ask me what colour polish to wear to a wedding, or with a certain coloured dress, I always say red.

That’s right. People ask me those questions.

It’s classic, feminine and goes with everything. The Thrill of Brazil from OPI is a personal favourite of mine. And Eve’s. And Anne-Marie’s. So it has a bit of a following.

Sharesies: Konad stamping kit

7 Nov

I often get asked how I make the fancy designs on my nails.

Sometimes I lie and say I did it freehand, but other times I tell the truth and try to explain the Konad stamping process. And I say “try” because people don’t often understand it until they see it action.

Without further ado, I’m offering my readers a chance to win a Konad starter kit from the fine ladies over at nailpolishcanada.com. Now *you* can tell everyone you did these super cute designs freehand.

All you have to do is leave me a comment (with a link to to your blog or an email address) and I’ll use one of those random number picker things on the Internet to choose a winner. Fun, right? You have until Friday, November 11 at noon to enter. Sorry American friends, this contest is only available to Canadians.

Here is what you get: M2 image plate, M3 image plate (see below), 5ml special polish (red), 5ml special polish (white), 5ml special polish (blue), stamper and scraper. Pretty much everything you need to get started. Hence the name, Konad starter kit. See? They’re so clever those Konad people.

I leave you with a couple shots of some of my favourite Konad designs. Good luck everyone!

Hot off the press: Flare Magazine

The only thing better than parcel Friday, is finding your nail art on flare.com. That is pretty fun too. The neon tiger stripes in the middle are even an editor’s pick. I’m not sure what that means, but it sounds exclusive. So let’s just go with that.
